The Imaginaries are a lo-fi rock band formed in Toronto in early 2007 by songwriter Jackson Fishauf.
The band's output is prolific. As of May 2009, they have recorded 7 full albums, 5 EPs, 2 singles, and 2 live albums, and hundreds of unreleased songs (not all material is currently available for download).
While all current albums have been recorded only by Fishauf, The Imaginaries play live with a band including Jazeen Hollings on bass, Jason Demitro on piano, and another musician on percussion.
Music influences include artists such as Bob Dylan, Velvet Underground, The Pixies, Wilco, The Beach Boys, Pavement, Talking Heads, Silver Jews, Rolling Stones, The Kinks, and early Weezer.
In August 2008, Fishauf began producing a record for a band called Red Milk. Named after Sonic Youth (a major influence), Milk's music tends to be more experimental, often using non-standard tunings and noise. Their first album, Very Few Helicopters, was completed in September 2008 and is available here. For Red Milk's upcoming second album, 79 Ages Ago, he has adopted a style and tone mixing 60s surf rock with folk music - becoming the first self-proclaimed surf folk band. The album is currently in production and should be availible by late 2009.
On January 1st 2009, the Imaginaries released their 7th full LP, Jac's Milk. It will be the last album Fishauf records alone.
